Paradise Valley Agadir: turquoise pools in the Atlas

About an hour north of Agadir, in the foothills of the High Atlas near Imouzzer, Paradise Valley is a steep gorge carved into the limestone of the Ida Outanane massif. A freshwater river forms a chain of emerald pools shaded by palm trees, oleanders and fig trees. The contrast between the arid mountains around and this cool green oasis is what makes it unforgettable.

Swimming, hiking and cliff jumping

When the pools are full you can swim in cool, clear freshwater, follow the palm-lined trail deeper into the gorge, and watch (or brave) the natural cliff jumps that give the valley its adventurous reputation. Berber cafes along the path serve fresh orange juice and tagine. It is a relaxed half-day of nature rather than a strenuous hike.

When there is water and how to visit

Water levels depend on the season: spring (after winter rains) is the best time, when pools are full and the river flows. Late summer can leave some pools dry. Arrive in the morning to enjoy the quiet before day-trippers arrive. The easiest way is a guided day trip from Agadir with hotel pickup, transport and swimming time included.
