Legzira beach: red sandstone arches south of Agadir

One of Moroccos most dramatic beaches
About two and a half hours south of Agadir, near Sidi Ifni, Legzira beach is famous for its towering red sandstone arches sculpted by the Atlantic over millennia. The deep-red cliffs against the blue ocean and wide, almost-empty sands make it one of the most photogenic beaches in Morocco, a favourite of photographers and slow travellers.
What to know before you go
One of the two original arches collapsed in 2016, but the remaining formation and the vast wild beach are still spectacular. Time your visit for low tide, when you can walk beneath the arch and along the full stretch of sand. Sunset turns the cliffs a glowing crimson. There are a few simple guesthouses and fish restaurants perched above the beach.
How to visit Legzira from Agadir
Legzira is a long day trip from Agadir, best combined with the walled town of Tiznit on the way. Because of the distance and the winding coast road, a guided day trip with transport is the most comfortable way to see it. Bring water, sun protection and good shoes for the soft sand.
